    Let the Royal Celebrations Commence

We’re honoured to announce that Mettler-Toledo Safeline X-ray has been awarded a second Queen’s Award for Enterprise on Her Majesty’s 91st birthday – this time in the Innovation category!

Now in its 51st year, the Queen’s Awards for Enterprise are one of the most prestigious business accolades in the UK, with organizations recognized for outstanding achievement in one of four categories: international trade, innovation, sustainable development and promoting opportunity.

Very few companies hold multiple Queen’s Awards concurrently so we’re particularly proud, having previously been presented with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise in the International Trade category in 2013. As a winner, we’ll be visited by a Royal representative and presented with a commemorative trophy, and two representatives from Safeline X-ray have been invited to a Royal reception at Buckingham Palace, hosted by Her Majesty The Queen.

Innovation is at the heart of everything we do

Awards for innovation are given to British businesses who can demonstrate that their innovative products or services are commercially successful. Safeline X-ray was one of 57 winners in this category in recognition of the advanced technical design of our X-Series of food and pharmaceutical x-ray inspection systems. All x-ray systems in the X-Series share technical innovations and design philosophy that were initially introduced on the X33 in 2012 in order to satisfy increasing customer demands.

    Innovations across the range include:

    • New high sensitivity detector technology which allows x-ray generator power to be reduced by up to a factor of five (e.g. from 100 Watts to 20 Watts) while achieving the same, or in some circumstances, better contaminant detection compared to previous systems.
    • Improved hygienic design and user ergonomics, including curved and sloped surfaces to allow water to run off after wash down.
    • A patented image processing technique for optimized inspection of glass jars which was developed on the X3750.

“We’re incredibly pleased to receive this significant award for a second time. Since its formation, the company has placed a heavy emphasis on innovation and to see this recognized through such a high level endorsement is wonderful,” said Kristian Laskey, Managing Director, Mettler-Toledo Safeline X-ray.

You may recall Safeline Ltd was also presented with a Queen’s Award in the Innovation category last year in acknowledgement of the evolution of the Profile family of metal detectors. The award followed the Queen’s Award for Enterprise: International Trade which was presented to the company in 2012. Winners of this category must demonstrate substantial international growth in overseas earnings and commercial success within their sector.
